Spring is almost in the air! Enjoy this first week of March with a guide to fun family activities throughout the region!

Monday, March 4

The Keswick Theater presents the Peking Acrobats today (and through March 6). Enjoy 20 of China’s most talented tumblers, contortionists, acrobats, and cyclists defying gravity with amazing displays of flexibility and strength.

Meet the famous duck-billed dinosaur from Haddonfield, NJ, at the Academy of Natural Sciences’ “Drawn to Dinosaurs” exhibit.

The Creative Clubhouse hosts its popular Open Studio today at 3 pm. Drop in for some fun art activities!

Tuesday, March 5

Please Touch Museum welcomes members of the Harlem Globetrotters today at 11 am at a very special meet and greet. See Fatima “TNT” Maddox and Brawley “Cheese” Chisolm, pose for a photo, and then watch as they perform some of their tricks!

Enjoy the adventures of Robin Hood and his band of Merry Men as they “borrow” from the rich, give to the poor, and rescue the fair Marian at the Mitchell Performing Arts Center in Bryn Athyn. It’s a fun-filled romp for the whole family.

Kids of all ages are invited to join in at story time at the Pottery Barn Kids store in King of Prussia. Members receive an official Book Club Passport at their first story time, and a special gift after attending five story times.

Wednesday, March 6

Paoli Library hosts its popular Toddler Storytime today at 11 am.

Smith Memorial Playground and Playhouse hosts Story Time in the Playhouse today at 10:30 am for children 5 and younger. Each session is led by Smith staff and volunteers, and features stories and songs.

Artkids @ the Movies is offered today at the Barnes Foundation. Enjoy a screening of Mr. Magorium’s Wonder Emporium at 4 pm. Best for ages 6–12 and their caregivers. Program tickets are available at the admission desk on a first-come, first-served basis.

Thursday, March 7

Is your child a budding builder? Join the Lego Club at the Tredyffrin Library on Thursdays at 4:30 pm. Drop in and join in the fun of free-style Lego building. The library supplies the Legos, you bring the imagination. Recommended for ages 7-12.

Head to the Barnes Foundation today to enjoy their ARTTime Story Time at 10:30 am. Today’s story is Make Van Gogh’s Bed by Julie Appel and Amy Guglielmo. Walk through rooms of art, and then design your own house! Advance reservations required.

Friday, March 8

Head over to the Willow Grove Park Mall today for a Meet and Treat with the Easter Bunny. This event features crafts, entertainment, and, a sweet yogurt treat!

This morning at Tyler Arboretum enjoy their Little Steppers Spring Thaw Hike. Search for signs of spring in the woods as you hike along woodland paths, climb over fallen logs, and  look for wildflowers. These excursions are specially designed for kids 5 and younger and their grown-ups to introduce them to fun of hiking. Pack up your baby, toddler, and/or preschooler and join Tyler educator Molly Scott for some great exercise in the form of a nature adventure.

Tredyffrin Library hosts Toddler Story Time today. Join in with your little ones (best for ages 3-5) for fun-filled enjoyment of books, age-appropriate crafts, games, and songs.

The Wayne Art Center hosts their popular School’s Out Day Camp today from 9 am-3:30 pm. Register for a day filled with art, craft, and drama! All projects are For the Birds! Create your own nest complete with ‘bird’ and ‘eggs’, create a ceramic birdhouse for your backyard friends, or use mixed media and collage to create a beautiful bird drawing — complete with feathers! Advance registration required.

Saturday, March 9

Enjoy the Colonial Theater’s showing of the popular Dr. Seuss classic Horton Hears a Who today at 2 pm, a warm, playful, and inventive tale of an elephant with a spirit as generous as his waistline.

Pinkalicious debuts at the Media Theater today! This is the first area presentation of the Off-Broadway sensation about the girl who only likes things pink and how it affects everyone around her. Based on the very popular series of children’s books. The musical runs March 9 – May 25.
See all the fun Old City has to offer for kids and families at this year’s Kids on 2nd Street day! From 10 am-1 pm, participate in a free morning of drama and dance classes, scavenger hunts, face-painting, arts and crafts activities, and much more. Start at Arden Theatre Company, 40 N. 2nd Street, to receive a complete map of activities. Each location will have a red balloon in front to signify their participation in the event.
Miss Maggie Sings! is coming to the Radnor Library, and she’s bringing along her guitar, songs, poems, and stories to entertain and teach children and their families about healthy foods, exercise, and good hygiene. Head to the Winsor Room for some nutritional, musical silliness! Appropriate for ages 3 and up.

Don’t miss the Children’s Music Festival to benefit Rubye’s Kids today at St. Peter’s Church in Glenside. Enjoy music by Peter Moses, Beth Fox, and artist/musician/comedian David C. Perry, plus face painting, food, and plenty of fun for everyone. All concert proceeds go to benefit Rubye’s Kids, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing charitable services which further the social, emotional, and educational welfare of impoverished children.

Sunday, March 10

In celebration of One Book One Philadelphia, let the Philadelphia Academy of Fine Arts teach you and your family several bookmaking techniques in this hands-on workshop. Use your books to record the stories that make your family special by writing about your family’s heritage and creating illustrations that show unique cultural traditions you cherish and share together.

The Boy Scouts of Washington District are hosting the Pinewood Derby Grand Prix for Cub Scouts today 12:30 – 3:30 pm at the Sussman Honda Showroom in Rosyln. The top three cars from each Pack will race on a racetrack more than 32 feet long. Awards will be given to the top three finishers along with awards for participation, the Best Cub Scout Drivers Costume, Conquers ‘d’ Elegance, Best of Derby, and Most Detailed Car.

Join in at the AWARE Walk at the Plymouth Meeting Mall from 8 am-11 am today. This family-friendly event includes face painting, entertainment, games, and an exclusive visit from Sesame Street’s Elmo and Cookie Monster. Families can participate in the walk, and take part in all activities offered. This will be an exciting and engaging event for all families in the area, and especially meaningful to families with loved ones and friends living with autism.

Sunday is Family Day at the Philadelphia Flower Show. Enjoy the nation’s largest flower show and the fun family-themed events throughout the Convention Center, sure to make your little ones smile.

Tell your own tale at the next Family Jam at the Philadelphia Magic Gardens! Founding artist Isaiah Zagar has created thousands of original tiles with words and pictures. These tiles are mosaicked into every nook and cranny of PMG and combine to tell the story of his life and the things he loves. Today, you can visit and decorate a ceramic tile to take home that tells one of your own stories.
